Most Popular Issues on Site

Another issue our clients had was with their exterior decking. The most obvious fault is the direction of the decking boards. We see this time and time again. The grooves or reeds on a decking board are not there as an anti-slip measure, they are designed to allow for airflow underneath the boards to stop moisture and mould build up. Installed by the original builder in their “Display Home”, it just amplifies how disappointing it is when construction isn’t carried out correctly.

To add insult to injury, the decking is held down to the joists below (The joists were H3 treated pine so a tick for that) with finishing brad nails, designed for holding your skirting or architraves to the internal timber frame, not for holding down your exterior decking boards and preventing them from moving during seasonal expansion and contraction. If you have something in your home that doesn’t feel or look quiet right, and need an expert opinion, or have a project that you want done Right, then call us at Apollo Improvements.
